In this study, the fluorine element was introduced into the main chain of polyurethane by a two-step process. Starting materials were poly(propylene glycol), isophorone diisocyanate, and perfluoropolyether polyol. A chain extender, 1,4-butanediol, was also used. FPU-coated enameled copper round wires were tested for adhesion, friction coefficient, and corrosion resistance. Furthermore, the electrical properties of QXY-coated wires were improved, such as breakdown voltage.

The FPU100 enameled copper round wire has the lowest friction coefficient among other fluorinated coatings. Its friction coefficient is lower than 0.149 compared with modified PU and co-FPU20 wires. This is because the fluorine atoms have larger radius compared with hydrogen and carbon atoms. This lower surface free energy makes the FPU100 wire more slippery than PU.
